Corvera Airport Opens Soon

Well according to various reports the “new” (ahem, long overdue and problematic) state-of-the-art airport based near Corvera in the Murcia region is opening in January 2019… the first flights are already scheduled and available from the 15th January. It is set to replace the “old” Murcia airport at San Javier which will stop operating on the 14th January.

At the moment most flights seem to to be scheduled for northern Europe destinations such as Belgium, Norway and the U.K. I guess these are the lucrative markets and reflects in the popularity of the area to these nationalities, particularly with property buyers, tourism and golf tours. The latter should help the many struggling golf courses in that area.

Leeds, London, East Midlands, Manchester and Southampton look to be getting early flight plans. Ryanair is a main operator here.

Existing routes by TUIfly, Ryanair, and Easyjet that currently serve Murcia San Javier airport will automatically transfer to Corvera airport on the opening date.

Additional summer routes will be added throughout the year, with British carriers Jet2 operating services from Manchester and Leeds Bradford and there is plans in offering a seasonal summer charter from Southampton from 29th June 2019.

It’s early days but should help with flight planning and economic & employment growth to the area. As a result the local property market should benefit too. Home owners and builders will be hoping for an increase in demand.

Hondon to Corvera Airport is about 1hout 5 mins by car.

The new Murica Airport  is about an hour drive from the Hondon Valley areas so may offer an alternative to the main Alicante Airport for some. it is reported that airport fees are considerably less than Alicante to attract the major airlines.

The airport already has concessions on site for Food & Beverage operators, including a Costa Coffee, Subway, Semba restaurant, and a WHSmith outlet offering books, magazines, and light snacks. There will be Car Hire (Goldcar, Rhino Car Hire, Europcar, Centauro Rent a Car, and Avis).

Need more information? The airport has a website and Facebook page for up-to-date information and you can check your airline’s website for flight details and availability.
