The “Pelicano” and the Almonds

The Good Life in Hondon – Almond Harvest:

If you already live in the Hondon Valley, then you will know that we are surrounded with acres and acres of agricultural delights such as almonds, olives, grapes and many market garden vegetables. Delicious ! … read more below the video …

Well the local farmers are already (End of August/ September) harvesting the almonds in the area. Many of the small farms are still using the labour intensive net & sticks method to collect the tasty nuts we all love.

But more often these days the bigger farms hire a team equipped with tractors and the “Pelicano” attachment to shake the tree of it’s riches!

If you haven’t seen this “Tree Shaker” gadget we were lucky enough to briefly video them nearby. How quick are they?

You’ll see the tractor attachment can back-up to the almond tree, clasp its large hopper around the trunk and SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE !!! Then empty its lovely bounty into the nearby containers. Easy and efficient.

It sure beats the old net and stick method!

WOW! Millions Know about Hondón

Our IT people are telling us that our very own Hondon Villas websites have passed the 1.5 million visitors mark. INCREDIBLE to think we are such a small area and a real estate niche for inland Spain.

Record sale and visitors in 2018

To think that when we arrived in Hondon, Spain 13 years ago, there was no information on the web about the Hondón Valley. (even Google hadn’t found it back then LOL!) Yet the area still retains the same Spanish charm and has changed little really. For sellers this is great news as the local economy thrives on property sales and a new influx of buyers looking for that typically tranquil Spanish country lifestyle.

What’s more… that figure does no include the 10,000’s of visitors to our international portals and marketing partners, like A Place in the Sun, Right Move, Kyero, Prime Location and more. WOW again!

So selling through Hondon Villas gets you plenty of exposure, maybe that’s one of the reasons why we sell more houses in the area than any other local agent!

Thank you from a VERY HAPPY TEAM!

Why we love the Hondon Valley!

Hondon Residents tell us why they love visiting or living in the Hondon area.

We asked our Facebook Group “What’s On Hondon” why they liked to live or visit the Hondon Valley… below the video are some of their great answers.

Kathryn says … “I love the laid back attitude along with the peace and quiet of a small Spanish village. Being surrounded by mountains is my favourite thing, it is so relaxing :)”

You’re so right we are loving it! Nigel and I are so very glad we found the Hondon Valley to live in. It’s been nearly a year since we first came to the valley and had love at first sight with the valley and our lovely home! : Jane De Longa

Janni : The weather is sublime. The Spanish are so welcoming and kind. The mountains are stunning and we have Hondon de los Frailes nearby with fab restaurants and a wonderful community of Brits, Dutch and other nationalities. There are many social activities and the coast is not far away. We feel lucky to have found the Hondon Valley.

Not all Real Estate Agents are Created the Same

We know that Spanish based Estate Agents and Builders don’t, in general have a great reputation and with good reason during those boom boom years in the early 2000’s. Is it still the same now?

It’s certainly better since the “crash” of 2008. But unfortunately, there are signs that bad practise by some agents and builders still happens, even in this quaint old Hondón Valley. That saddens us greatly at Hondon Villas because it is a too wide a brush stroke that hurts the ones like us trying to work damn hard to ensure buyers and sellers get a good legal deal with the minimum of fuss and hassle

IMPORTANT: If you are ever uncomfortable with the actions, language, pressure sales or promises from other estate agents… JUST CALL US … WE WILL HELP YOU 100% – we want to be the model of quality service that other agents envy and clients want!

AIPP – The Industry Standard

Hondon Valley Property AgentAs members of the AIPP (Association of International Property Professionals) we strive to fulfil and exceed their recommended best practises for fair and honest real estate services. In fact we are passionate about property and our service. We’ve been here 10+ years so we are not about to ruin our good name.

Alas, we know there are some non-local agents visiting the Hondon Valley with their clients who might follow that old shady path – but a few local agents still pull a trick or two (and we have had many instances of concrete and anecdotal evidence). We’ve had “Se Vende” boards stolen, our websites copied, web content & images stolen, lies told about us, “gazumping”, people laundering money, offered back-handers, doing black deals behind our backs and agents trying to steal our clients or destroy our reputation many times. These shady characters can be hard to spot if you are inexperienced and you put your trust in every word they utter. Don’t be mugged by ex-timeshare, fly-by-nights or out-of-town agents!

Hondon de las NievesBut for sure we usually spot a snake or rat and take stringent action, denounce or take other legal proceedings. We think it is important not only for our own reputation but also to ensure standards are improved for you the buyer or seller. As we all know bad news travels faster than good and we want to ensure it’s all good!

So… A Local Agents Should Know Better

At Hondon Villas we firmly believe the cream rises to the top. Our clients voted for us and we won “Business of the Year” in 2015 and have remained committed  to and invested in the Hondón areas.  We NOW HAVE TWO OFFICES in the area (both Frailes and Nieves)On the whole you are much better to stick with a local agent as a) they know the area and property market better and b) their reputation depends on repeat business and trust.

So our best advice is to be a little wary, slow down, don’t be rushed into anything, or give away your deposit money too quickly to an agent or builder or sign something you don’t understand without legal representation… but better still CALL Hondon Villas – we are local, experienced and trusted here. “Rip-off” is NOT something we entertain or condone.

Thank you,

Correfocs Fireworks in Hondón de las Nieves

Well WE WERE THERE! How about you?

HONDON VILLAS got some great footage of this year’s Correfocs Firework Fiesta in Hondón de las Nieves. Always exciting, dangerous and colourful.… and a late start at MIDNIGHT!

It’s a loud, it’s smokey, scary and a spectacular event … dark and menacing but fun to join in with every year!

If you missed it … shame but here is our 2 minute video montage to remind you of the madness that unfolds in this sleepy ol’ Hondón village during Fiesta time :-) LOL!
