We Love “Place In The Sun”

Who is your favourite A Place In The Sun presenter? Laura was recently in the area and Jasmine came to the area last year. We think they are all great but our all-time favourite is Amanda Lamb.

So how many of you were seduced and convinced to make the dream move abroad by programs like A Place In The Sun? We were and many British clients we encounter often talk of TV programs like this being a key factor to ignite their passion to live in Spain.

There has been nearly 2000 A Place in the Sun TV programmes made and broadcast in the UK over the last 18 years, with over half of these made about Spanish property. Of course, daytime TV repeats these episodes many times. But clients tell us they love watching it and it does help them in their quest for a Spanish property.

New study sheds more light on benefits of the Mediterranean diet.

med-diet[Source: AngloInfo]  To many expats the headline may seem like old but good news to those who already eat a Mediterranean diet, based on findings from years ago.

However, a new study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) this week, reinforces the previous findings that following a Mediterranean diet helps prevent or slow down ageing.

The health of about 5,000 nurses in the USA was followed with a controlled number placed on a Mediterranean diet for more than ten years. The nurses on the Mediterranean diet showed fewer signs of ageing than their counterparts on a ‘normal’ diet. Specifically, it seems that microscopic ‘caps’ called telomeres, which protect our genetic material as it divides, get shorter and less protective on a normal diet. Whereas on a Mediterranean diet, the nurses’ telomeres did not shorten as much; and they showed fewer signs of cell degradation, or ageing.

What is a Mediterranean diet? According to the BMJ it involves eating, “a high intake of vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes and grains; a high intake of olive oil but a low intake of saturated fats; a moderately high intake of fish; a low intake of dairy products, meat, and poultry; and a regular but moderate intake of alcohol (specifically wine with meals).

Three cheers for following the Mediterranean diet then.

Spanish Property Growth: Up & Away!

Spanish Property Market

Whilst nowhere near the crazy days of the Spanish Property Boom .. the indicators are that Spain is still popular with UK property buyers’, even post-Brexit.

From Hondón Villas view point, apart from a two months post Brexit scaremongering, the local market is as strong if not better.

  • The AIPP have reported:
    A strong recovery in 2017 with sales of about 15,000 Spanish properties sold to the British.
  • British buyer market worth £2.8 billion a year to Spain
  • Brits are back with better Q1 2018 sales,14% higher than Q1 2017.
  • Brits are now paying an average €1,628 per square metre in Spain – the highest rate since early 2013.

Also sales of Spanish property to British residents appearing to have come at the expense of other countries, like Turkey and those in North Africa, also indicating that many British people are bringing-forward their purchase before Brexit, 2019, in order to (perhaps) secure greater property rights in those countries.

And the indicators are growth this year 2018 and beyond if EU / World Trade has the same stability.
